L.v. Beethoven – Symphony No. 3 “Eroica” / Egmont
KLANGKOLLEKTIV WIEN
Rémy Ballot, conductor
The KLANGKOLLEKTIV WIEN, a newly founded orchestra in the Austrian cultural landscape, has already met with an enthusiastic audience with its first recording of Franz Schubert‘s symphonies no. 1 & 8 (the ‚Unfinished‘). The musicians’ unique approach, headed by their chief conductor Rémy Ballot, is to get to the very essence of the masterpieces of the Viennese Classic and to reveal their true inner logic. Their thorough orchestral approach leads to an entirely new musical understanding of a repertoire that apparently seems to be well-known at first.
Now, with their second album release under Viennese label Gramola, Rémy Ballot and the KLANGKOLLEKTIV WIEN are now publishing a live concert recording of Beethoven’s symphony No. 3 “Eroica” and the Egmont Overture, in due time for the Beethoven Year 2020. True to its artistic credo, the excellent musicians of the collective interpret these works in the slender and transparent original instrumentation of the premiere with only six first violins, thus opening up an acoustic reminiscence of the year 1804.

REVIEW
“…a live recording of the Eroica, played in a historically informed manner on modern instruments. The sound is very fresh and transparent. With the different levels of the music being clearly exposed, one is listening behind the first lines in order to grasp the meaningfulness of what is happening in the side-lines. The nice thing is that the music never gets purely technical, but even rather soulful.“
